I'm sure we are all used to the standard practice of buying your opponent a drink when we loose, and although not a "law", it is convention. And I'm sure we are all used to the odd person in the odd team , who doesn't follow convention
However is these economic times, it is understandable for more players to be reluctant/unable to but the drink. This i have no objection to, especially when they tell you Before the game. (and to be honest , if I loose I have still bought one anyway)
What I am finding is that more people are telling you after the event that they cant buy one. Funny, if they had won , they would have gladly taken one, or indeed upgraded their squash to a pint of beer
I mention it because recently we have played a team , home and away, and beaten them 11-5, with only two pints bought for our winners, yet all 5 losers took a pint !
Any thoughts out there

Yes agree with all you say it has happened to me a couple of times. There is no shame to admitting your a bit strapped for cash (god knows we have all been there) a quiet word before your match will only result in respect. In general i have only noticed this a couple of times in the years i have been playing and must say that the sddl matches are always played in a very sporting fashion long may it continue

i also agree.
as regards for our team i cannot speak on behalf of all our players, nor can i make them buy 'the dreaded pint' but as for our team no team member as ever upgraded there pint of squash to an alcoholic drink! The people in our team drink squash because firstly there either underage or secondly the other gents in our team are reformed alcoholics and thus dont drink anymore!
in regards to the lack of the drinks brought though i have spoke to our captain and he's sitting the team down for a chat before our game on Monday. Me myself, i will always buy a drink if i lose or depending on the game and circumstances i might even buy one if i win, out of a sign of respect for the game that was played.
Definately agree though just a quick word before the game, we've all been there!
