Shrewsbury Premier Darts League
A new and exciting darts league is coming to Shrewsbury, starting in September 2010. It will be played on Friday nights.
Team League/Cup with
1. 501 flying start 2. 6 singles/2 doubles best of 3. or 6/7 singles best of 5 legs 3. Individual League Tables 4. 3 dart Averages kept for every player including how many 100’s, checkout table and much more 5. Team shirts 6. 8 to 12 Teams 7. exclusive website 8. Committee area on website. 9. Every player will be issued with a registration number 10. End of season Finals Night/ Tournament where everyone takes part. 11. No team will be entered into the league until a fully paid signing on sheet has been handed in. (stop teams dropping out due to lack of interest) 12. Catch up weeks, when teams cannot fulfil fixtures.
All the above are proposals at the moment any ideas would be gratefully received.
We are in the process of securing sponsorship and have completed the first draft of the rules.
A meeting will be organised in the summer to discuss the finer details and to arrange the initial AGM date
If anyone is interested in entering a team, then please let me know. More details will be posted soon.
P.S Can I make it clear, this will in no way affect the SDDL, if i thought for 1 minute it would, this league would not go ahead.

this is a great idea and 501 is the only way to go. 6 singles 2 doubles? does this mean you can use 4 of the players that have played singles in the doubles or 4 other players or a bit of both? just throwing this in cos there are so many different formats you can use. how are you gonna keep track of all individual scores? sounds like a lot of hard work or is it me being a bit dolly dimple. no matter this is a cracking idea and 110% behind this

cheers Macam
As I said only proposals. We have a blank canvas to work with need opinions from experienced dart players.
Basically we can do what the players want.
Hard Work. Can be. I have no problem in keeping individual tables updated, Averages just a matter of recording the scores while watching. We need to talk to super league players etc.
If Im involved running a league its important to me that the tables info etc is upto date every week. Its the least we can do for the players.
6 singles/ 2 doubles yes can play both, so you a fulfill a fixture with 6 players or even have 10 players.
Game On.

Superb idea.Let's make this league one to make Shrewsbury proud of as the word says Premier league.High time to get this town to play 501 on a Friday night even better. All the people who want to keep 301 fine Mondays is your night everyone happy instead of it been chucked out every AGM.The format also good you could turn up with 6 or 10 players everyone gets a game. Neil did a superb job on the Pontesbury league with the website with how many 100's,most wins, checkouts and with the added bonus of a 3 dart averages for each player its something different. 501 can only improve people's game.Let's get it on.

the red castle harmer hill will put a team in 100% certain, a lot of our players use to play oswestry a league on a friday night but it was a lot of travelling chirk penybont etc etc.....so shrewsbury would be ideal,we also had a superleague side last year so no whats needed to record averages etc. Sounds very exciting ;D

Gives the pontesbury league a kick in the teeth a place where most players learnt how to play darts. Yeah I know the teams from that way will try n get teams but most players are locals and wouldn't want to travel into salop every other week. Could be wrong will wait to see.

A great proposal
but there will be issues about affecting other leagues, particularly on a friday night, but there are not too many alternatives that do not clash with something else
And sorry to upset teams like Red Castle, Duncan etc but I think the attempt should be to get 10 or 12 teams that are all in Shrewsbury, and keep things local, at least to start
I am sure those players will find a darts friendly pub to take them if they want to join. Basically, play town darts or country darts, otherwise we will end up with teams from Cressage to Baschurch or further afield wanting to join
On the topic of summer darts, there used to be an excellent summer league playing 501 on Sunday nights, as far back as the late 70's, with top county players from Telford, B'north, Oswestry - I used to play for Dave Evans at the Swan and then Midland Red - I did not win too many but learned a great deal

Hope that the country sides do get a chance to join, its the cost of a pint to share a taxi to say harmer hill or baschurch from town and you just have to take a look at the shrewsbury leagues to see what would be left without us. Going to play for a town side is all well and good but playing for your local is surely all anyone wants to do? it shows the commitment of the "out of towners "when they are doing most of the travelling!

I think this is an inspired idea! There will be tons of interest...if there is enough...would a two league system be considered? Maybe a Premier League and a Championship with promotion and relegation, top team of Championship and bottom of prem automatically promoted/relegated and if 12 or more teams in each league then a playoff for promotion between 2nd in championship and 2nd bottom of prem.
Its just an idea...i have a feeling there will be an AWFUL lot of interest in this. :-)

Since placing the thread on the forum, the feedback has been very positive, some really good ideas have come across. As said before a meeting will be arranged, this will be after the AGM on the 7th June IF 501 gets in it might change peoples opinions.Probably late June (make sure there are no world cup games on). Country Pubs. A couple of opinions. If there are teams keen to play in this new league then there is no way I would stand in their way. They would be very welcome. So the answer to the question: Red Castle - YES Some have asked for it to be in the summer, I believe this could affect the charity competitions that SDDL run and also with so many people being away on holiday in the leagues might not run true to form. But thats only my opinion. Other pubs that are interested. Belvidere Charles Darwin Bricklayers with The Romping Cat lads a possibility Crown Britannia Compasses Bayston Hill Compasses Ditherington Admiral Duncan and now the Red Castle. We have good sponsors in place, I would like to see good cash prizes not just to the top teams but a good spread of money. If I am asked to help run this league, then you will see total commitment from myself and others who help run it. For 5 years I helped run the Pontesbury League organising: running their website Individual League tables running a top 16 playoff at the end of the season. 180 trophies High Checkout Tables Charity Nights (raising well over £1000) Arranging inter league games with Shrewsbury League and also the Blackpool League (for the previous 6 years). Going again awesome weekend. I resigned from the PDDDL committee last year leaving it in a very healthy state. I am a Shrewsbury born and bred and believe it was time for the local people of Pontesbury to run their own league. It was left in very capable hands. Would it affect the PDDDL league? I would guess only a handful of dart players would switch, so no. again I wouldn't put a league together that would have a negative affect on a league that was very close to my heart. P.S I would need some help about averages and how they are scored. Time for a cup of Tea. Game On

ARNIE YOUR A LEGEND ;D ;D ;D ;D If wasn't like people like yourself and others Shrewsbury and district Darts would be on there arse!!! Considering the financial climate at the moment it is hard to afford to go and play darts at the best of times with different commitments and what not but without the likes of yourself i think it would wither and die!!! Even if your a trophy hunter or an outsider waiting for that big scalp like myself i think we should all give it a good go if your up for it? ARNIE for PM ;D ;D ;D
Being a former country bumpkin myself i do think if it wasn't for the country pubs like Baschurch,Cressage,Minsterley,Habberley,Pontesbury,Harmer Hill,Bomere Heath etc etc you wouldnt have so many competitive darts being played over the years!!!!! people will play darts given the opportunity even if it did mean getting a taxi into town!! So lets give Friday night the vote ;D

First of all the Duncan will be entering a team. Sorry Scooter but you really must think before you type things on this forum. We spend over £1,000 a year in taxis fares going to Shrewsbury ever other week to play SHREWSBURY darts teams. If teams cant come out to country pubs once in a while, then they are obviously not keen to play darts.
Our to team is a keen as anyone to play in this and we are certainly a very well respected team both for our darts and entertainment.
Neil of you require any help you know where we are.
